Speaking at Athens Energy Summit, the CEO of Enaon underlined that the digital transformation of the networks in Greece will enhance the flexibility of the energy system<\/em><\/p>\n

The crucial role that g<\/strong>as infrastructure plays in ensuring affordable energy costs and supporting the energy transition,<\/strong>\u00a0driving the decarbonisation of the economy and consumption in line with the climate targets set by the European Union,\u00a0was pointed out by Ms.\u00a0Barbara Morgante<\/strong>\u00a0, CEO of\u00a0Enaon of Italgas Group<\/strong>, during\u00a0\u201c<\/strong>Athens Energy Summit\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0held in February 5, 2025.<\/p>\n

Ms. Morgante participated among distinguished speakers, such as the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Mrs. Alexandra Sdoukou, in the thematic session \u201cRenewed perspectives for the role of oil and gas in the Mediterranean\u201d, moderated by the journalist Mrs. Ritsa Bizogli.<\/p>\n

\u201cDigital transformation of the gas infrastructure is a crucial driver for decarbonising the\u00a0energy\u00a0sector and advancing renewable gases.\u00a0In Greece, we\u00a0are\u00a0developing\u00a0a smart, digital, and flexible network that can accommodate biomethane, and, in the longer term, hydrogen. This will enhance the flexibility and resilience of the entire energy system, enabling\u00a0 diversification of sources, decarbonisation of consumption and greater efficiency and economy\u201d Ms. Morgante highlighted.<\/p>\n

She also\u00a0<\/strong>underlined that gas infrastructure is\u00a0<\/strong>crucial in order<\/strong>\u00a0to overcome the energy trilemma,<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>as it<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>provides\u00a0<\/strong>a cost-effective solution<\/strong>\u00a0that\u00a0ensures energy security\u00a0and\u00a0supports\u00a0<\/strong>energy<\/strong>\u00a0transition<\/strong>. Gas distribution networks\u00a0that Enaon manages, through its subsidiary Enaon EDA,\u00a0are\u00a0capable\u00a0of\u00a0meeting\u00a0the multiple energy needs of\u00a0 the consumers\u00a0-residential, commercial and industrial-\u00a0strengthening the country\u2019s energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Natural Gas networks<\/strong>\u00a0are a vital infrastructure for enhancing the flexibility of the country\u2019s energy system, which is already facing challenges due to the intenrmittency\u00a0 of electricity generation from renewable sources. Thanks to their flexibility and the continuous flow of gas they allow, they contribute to streghening the stability of the energy system, by providing reliable solutions for managing energy demand, particulalry during periods of high volatility. At the same time,\u00a0the existing and highly developed natural gas networks\u2019 infrastructure is\u00a0<\/strong>available to accommodate and distribute \u00a0biomethane immediately and hydrogen later in time,<\/strong>\u00a0offering additional decarbonisation solutions for both industry and residential heating.<\/p>\n

Having already achieved significant milestones, Enaon is ready to face future challenges and continues to develop as a key player in the Greek energy sector. Today, through its subsidiary Enaon EDA,\u00a0Enaon manages around 8,000 kilometers of network across the country, with 615,000 active delivery points<\/strong>. Through the new investments, the company plans to develop projects in new areas, targeting\u00a011,000 km of network and about 1 million consumers by 2030<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Implementing an ambitious investment program in Greece, worth \u20ac1 billion<\/strong>, as part of the Italgas Group\u2019s 2024-2030 Strategic Plan,\u00a0Enaon is \u201d shielding\u201d the country with sustainable gas infrastructure that aims to meet the evolving energy needs of end consumers and has a positive impact on the planet, people and the economic system.<\/strong><\/p>\n
