Multiple benefits for the local community and the environment, with significant energy and resource savings
Hellenic Gas Distribution Company Enaon EDA, a subsidiary of Enaon of Italgas Group, and the Municipality of Lamia have signed the contracts for the connection of nine municipal buildings to the natural gas distribution network in Lamia, ensuring multiple benefits for the local community and the environment.
The cooperation concerns the energy upgrading of seven schools of primary and secondary education and two Centres for the Open Protection of the Elderly (K.A.P.H.) of the city, which will gain access to a cleaner and more affordable form of energy. The benefits of using natural gas are multiple, as significant energy and resource savings are achieved, while contributing to the protection of the environment.
In particular, the municipal buildings that will be connected to the gas distribution network are the following: 1st Gymnasium of Lamia, 4th Lyceum of Lamia, 1st Lyceum of Lamia, 7th Primary School of Lamia, 6th Primary School of Lamia, 4th Gymnasium of Lamia, 13th Primary School of Lamia, as well as the 1st K.A.P.H. of Lamia and the 3rd K.A.P.H. of Lamia.

At the same time, it will also result in savings that will be allocated to other projects for the benefit of our citizens. The project for the development of the gas distribution network in Lamia has a budget of 9.6 million euros and is co-financed by the Company’s funds and resources from the Operational Programme of the Region of Central Greece (NSRF 2021-2027).
The project involves the construction of a total of 100 km of medium and low pressure network and more than 3,700 connections of consumers from the residential, commercial and industrial sector. So far, 64 km of network have been constructed and work continues according to the agreed schedules.
Through the network, 1,040 residential consumers, 23 commercial consumers and 6 industrial consumers in the municipality of Lamia are already being served, enjoying the benefits of natural gas.
At the same time, the procedures for connecting public and municipal buildings of the city are progressing. Apart from the nine municipal buildings mentioned above, the General Hospital of Lamia, the Municipal Swimming Pool of Lamia and the Municipal Sports Centre – Halchioupouleio of Lamia will also be connected to the network.
