PRESS RELEASE
New Era for Livadeia: Connected to the Natural Gas Network
Natural Gas Flame Lighting Ceremony by the CEO of Enaon EDA, in the presence of the Regional Governor of Central Greece and the Mayor of Livadeia
The flame of natural gas was symbolically lit yesterday in Livadeia, marking the activation of the network and the supply of the city with a cleaner, more affordable, and more reliable form of energy. Livadeia is one of the six cities in the Region of Central Greece, along with Lamia, Chalkida, Thiva, Amfissa and Karpenisi, where sustainable energy infrastructure is being developed, led by Enaon EDA, a subsidiary of Enaon of the Italgas Group, offering solutions that support local communities and lead to a greener future.
The natural gas flame lighting ceremony in Livadeia was conducted by the CEO of Enaon EDA, Ms. Francesca Zanninotti, in the presence of the Regional Governor of Central Greece, Mr. Fanis Spanos, the Mayor of Livadeia, Mr. Dimitris Karamanis and local officials.
Ms. Francesca Zanninotti, CEO of Enaon EDA, emphasized: «It is an honor for me to be here with you at this significant moment for the city of Livadeia. Today, we are not just talking about infrastructure or numbers; we are talking about progress, opportunities, and a shared vision for a better future. The activation of the natural gas distribution network in Livadeia is a project that will energetically transform the city, improving the quality of life for households, businesses, and the entire local community. Livadeia now has a modern energy network, which is not only ready to distribute natural gas starting today but will also serve as the foundation for the future integration of biomethane, further strengthening our goals for sustainable development. None of this would have been possible without the dedication, cooperation, and shared vision of so many people. I would like to thank the Regional Governor of Central Greece, Mr. Fanis Spanos, for his valuable support, and Mayor of Livadeia, Mr. Dimitris Karamanis, for his excellent collaboration. Special thanks go to the employees of our company and, of course, to the residents of the city for their trust».
On his part, the Regional Governor of Central Greece, Mr. Fanis Spanos, pointed out: «The expansion of the natural gas distribution network to six cities of our Region—Lamia, Halkida, Livadeia, Thiva, Amfissa, and Karpenisi—has been a major goal of ours since 2015. Back then, Costas Bakoyannis completed an important agreement for the implementation of a project worth €47,350,000, of which €21,200,000 comes from the Regional Operational Program of Central Greece. We have worked systematically and collaboratively over the years to reach today and the special ceremony of lighting the natural gas flame in Livadeia, which marks the official activation of the network and the gradual supply of the city. We are moving forward dynamically to fully achieve our goal with the extension of the network to other cities in Central Greece. We are progressing together for a Region that is greener, more efficient, and more competitive. So that more and more of our citizens have access to a cleaner and more efficient form of energy».
The Mayor of Livadeia, Mr. Dimitris Karamanis, noted: «The completion of the natural gas interconnection project in our city and the opportunity it provides for the citizens to start enjoying this energy source, comes at a time when the energy crisis is causing many problems not only for household economies and citizens’ pockets but also for the environment. Gas distribution infrastructure offers significant benefits to the local community, as it contributes to reducing energy costs for households and businesses in the city, while rationalising the operating costs for public and municipal buildings. At the same time, the project contributes to the prosperity of the local economy, creating the conditions for sustainable development in our region. We are pleased to have attended the event marking the start of natural gas supply in our city. It is a milestone day that creates different, better conditions for energy and green transition. I would like to thank the company representatives very much for their cooperation so far».
The natural gas distribution infrastructure development project in Livadeia, led by Enaon EDA as, has a total budget of €5.9 million and is co-financed by the company’s funds and resources from NSRF, through the Operational Program of the Region of Central Greece, which supports the network’s development across six cities. With the co-financing of Greece and the European Union, the project began with funds from NSRF 2014-2020 and will be completed through the “Central Greece 2021-2027” program.
Already, 21 kilometers of the natural gas distribution network have been constructed in Livadeia, with an additional 36 kilometers planned for its further expansion.
Interest in connecting to the network is particularly high. So far, more than 200 applications for connection and expressions of interest have been submitted, including 17 applications from municipal buildings. Schools, the Fire Department building, the new Town Hall, and other important public buildings are among them, which demonstrates the local community’s trust in this new energy solution.
According to Enaon EDA planning, in the six cities of the region of Central Greece where natural gas distribution networks are being developed, a total of more than 11,000 consumer connections are planned by 2029, of which more than 1,600 in Livadia.
It is noted that, as part of the co-financed project, all residential and commercial consumers are entitled to a 100% discount on connection fees.
Enaon remains committed to developing energy infrastructure across the country, ensuring lower energy costs for all through sustainable energy practices that contribute to achieving the goals for addressing climate change.
