One Year of New Corporate Identity with Significant Milestones

The Company develops its strategy with a focus on highlighting  sustainable energy solutions for the environment and society

Enaon, Sustainable networks Company  and its subsidiary  Enaon EDA, Hellenic Gas Distribution Company, have completed one year since their transition to the new corporate identity, as part of the Italgas Group. The rebranding, which was completed on February 14th, 2024, marked the beginning of a new era of growth, innovation and commitment to sustainable energy. During this year, Enaon and Enaon EDA have achieved significant milestones in the sector of natural gas distribution in Greece, strengthening their dynamics for the uninterrupted and high-quality energy supply to consumers.

With a vision of sustainability and innovation, Enaon has opened a new chapter in the Greek energy landscape, by digitally upgrading existing natural gas distribution networks and by developing new infrastructure throughout the country, ensuring a sustainable energy future for all.

On its journey under the leadership of Italgas, the Company develops its strategy with a focus on highlighting sustainable solutions for the environment and the communities, using cutting-edge digital tools and smart grid solutions to enhance the efficiency and reliability of networks, for the benefit of consumers.

The key objectives achieved are focused on the following pillars:

  • Access of areas to the natural gas distribution network:

Despite the challenges the Company faced in expanding the network to new areas of the country, Enaon managed to achieve the coordination of the stakeholders involved, adressing promptly any issues that arise, respecting the regulatory and legal framework, while improving its efficiency and the provision of services to the customers.

In 2024, new areas were supplied, such as Grevena, Livadia, Giannitsa, Orestiada, Kastoria and Argos Orestiko, providing local communities with access to a cleaner, more reliable and more affordable energy source.

Today, Enaon manages a total of approximately 8,200 kilometers of network and over 615,000 active delivery points in more than 106 Municipalities in 9 Regions of the country: Attica, Central Macedonia, Thessaly, Eastern Macedonia & Thrace, Central Greece, Western Macedonia, Western Greece, Epirus and Peloponnese. The investment program of €1 billion, implemented by the Company under the 2024-2030 Strategic Plan of the Italgas Group, forsees the construction of an additional 3,000 km of network, increasing the number of consumers to approximately 1 million by 2030.

  • Supplying Remote Areas through Small-Scale LNG Infrastructure Projects:

With the goal of bringing natural gas even to areas remote from the National Natural Gas Transmission System, Enaon, using the expertise of its parent company Italgas, is developing cryogenic Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) storage facilities, following the model created in Sardinia. The first small-scale LNG infrastructures were inaugurated in 2024 in Kastoria and Florina, demonstrating the company’s commitment to bringing natural gas to every region, regardless of its geographical location.

  • 10% Increase in Demand for Connection to the Network:

Natural gas infrastructure plays an important role in ensuring affordable energy costs, which is reflected in the increase in demand in 2024. New connection contracts increased by 10% compared to 2023, with the greatest interest recorded in the Regions of Central Macedonia (mainly in Serres, Kilkis and Giannitsa) and Western Macedonia (mainly in Florina and Grevena). In addition to residential and commercial consumers, a significant increase was recorded in connection contracts for industries, while increased interest was recorded for the connection of public buildings, such as hospitals, schools, etc. In 2024, there was also an 11% increase compared to 2023 in the activation of new consumer connections.

  • Digital Transformation of the Network:

Incorporating Italgas’ best practices, the Company began in 2024 to digitally upgrade the natural gas network to be ready to receive biomethane directly and, in the future, hydrogen. This is a smart, digital, and flexible network that forms the basis for the distribution of renewable gas in combination with natural gas.

  • Meter Replacement & Picarro System:

Among the most important initiatives for the digitization of the country’s natural gas distribution infrastructure is the replacement of existing meters with new smart metering systems, where they do not exist, ensuring accuracy and immediacy of measurements, as well as remote monitoring and control of critical meter functions.

Picarro System In addition, the company already uses the Picarro system, which was introduced on the Italian network by Italgas and is the most advanced technology worldwide for the regular monitoring of the network and the early detection of gas leaks, extending the analysis to the aerial sections of distribution systems, which are inaccessible with conventional methods.

  • Sustainability Report:

In 2024, Enaon’s first Sustainability Report marked a significant milestone in its ongoing commitment to a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future. The report reaffirms the Company’s commitment to creating value for the planet, the people, and partnerships –the three key pillars of the Italgas Group’s Sustainability Value Creation Plan – by providing affordable, sustainable energy.

At the same time, Enaon prioritizes the well-being of its people, diversity, and inclusion, extending these principles throughout its value chain through the integration of sustainable practices.

  • Stakeholder Engagement Workshop:

To further demonstrate its commitment to sustainability, the Company hosted its first stakeholder engagement workshop. Key external stakeholders from Greece collaborated to identify and prioritize crucial issues impacting their operations, paving the way for the development of sustainable initiatives. This event fostered open dialogue and reinforced Enaon’s dedication to transparency and collaboration.

Inspired by Italgas legacy, Enaon is ready to face future challenges and strengthen its presence in the Greek natural gas distribution market, by offering more efficient and reliable services, with the goal of creating sustainable value for local communities and for the country as a whole.
