Informative event in Thiva, in the presence of the CEO of Enaon EDA, Fr. Zanninotti, the Regional Governor of Central Greece, and the Mayor of Thiva
Hellenic Gas Distribution Company Enaon EDA is continuing its informative activities in Thiva with the aim of better informing citizens, businesses, and the technical community about the benefits of natural gas and the possibilities for connecting to the city’s network. In Thiva, the construction of the co-funded project for the development of the natural gas distribution network has been completed, marking a significant milestone for the energy upgrade of the area and the improvement of everyday life for households and businesses. The next phase of the project focuses on the smooth and gradual connection of consumers to the network.
The progress of the project was at the centre of an informative event held in Thiva on Friday, 20 March 2026, attended by the CEO of Hellenic Gas Distribution Company Enaon EDA, Ms. Francesca Zanninotti, the Regional Governor of Central Greece, Mr. Fanis Spanos, the Deputy Regional Governor of Voiotia, Mr. George Dasioitis, the Mayor of Thiva, Mr. Giorgos Anastasiou and representatives of local authorities. During the event, emphasis was placed on the importance of effective cooperation between the company, the Region of Central Greece, and the Municipality of Thebes for the development of the natural gas network in the region.
The CEO of Enaon EDA, Ms Francesca Zanninotti, noted during her speech: “At a time when energy markets are experiencing increased volatility, natural gas remains a reliable and cost-effective energy solution for households and businesses. It is an option that is still affordable for consumers and can offer a relatively quick return on investment. Today, in Thiva, with the completion of the co-funded project, the conditions are being created for more and more households and businesses to take advantage of the benefits of natural gas. At the same time, modern natural gas distribution networks lay the groundwork for the energy system of the future, as they can gradually support the use of renewable gases, such as biomethane. Through the informative activities we carry out at the local level, as well as the technical seminars we organize for industry professionals, we aim to enhance consumer awareness and support the development of expertise across the entire natural gas value chain, with an emphasis on best practices for installation and safety”.
The Regional Governor of Central Greece, Mr. Fanis Spanos, underlined: “We are changing the energy landscape of the city of Thebes and the entire Region of Central Greece at the most critical moment, under the most challenging circumstances. Amid the international energy crisis, we are here to provide yet another alternative. In Thebes, more than 50 km of network have already been developed—an investment of €3.9 million—which we strongly supported in order to ensure cheaper and cleaner energy for every home and business. With the activation of natural gas networks in all six cities of Central Greece, our region is leading the way in the energy transition. It is becoming more modern, more competitive and more resilient in difficult times such as those we are experiencing”.
The Mayor of Thiva, Mr Giorgos Anastasiou, emphasised: “Today’s information event marks a new era for the infrastructure and daily life of Thebes. The arrival of natural gas in our city is not merely a technical project; it is a strategic investment in development, the economy and environmental protection […] Our goal, through cooperation, is for every resident of Thebes to have access to reliable information on how they can connect to the network and benefit from current offers. We continue to work so that Thebes evolves into a modern, functional and environmentally responsible city. I invite you to receive detailed information from the company’s experts regarding the technical aspects and the next steps in the network’s expansion”.
The development of the natural gas distribution network in Thiva, led by Enaon EDA, has a total budget of €3.9 million and is co-funded by the company’s own funds and resources from the NSRF, through the Operational Programme of the Region of Central Greece. With co-funding from Greece and the European Union, the project was launched under NSRF 2014–2020 and completed through the Central Greece Programme 2021–2027.
In Thiva, more than 50 kilometres of natural gas network have already been constructed, serving approximately 500 residential and commercial consumers, as well as public buildings, including the General Hospital of Thiva. As part of the co-funded project, the connection of 1,700 consumers is planned, with a 100% discount on connection fees, facilitating access to a more modern, resilient and cleaner energy solution.
This is a modern and reliable energy network that meets the needs of the local community through the use of natural gas today, while laying the foundations for the energy system of tomorrow, with the potential to utilise renewable gases such as biomethane.
Enaon EDA continues to work closely with all stakeholders, providing targeted support through initiatives such as technical seminars and training activities aimed at professionals in the technical sector and local market stakeholders. Recently, the company organised a specialised technical seminar in Thiva, in cooperation with the Municipality of Thiva and the Licensed Plumbers Association, focusing on natural gas installations and best practices. Initiatives such as this are crucial for ensuring high standards of safety, quality and expertise across the entire value chain.
