Enaon’s Pavilion was inaugurated by CEO Gianfranco Amoroso, in the presence of Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Nikos Tsafos and distinguished guests
The inauguration of Enaon’s Pavilion at the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) was held by the company’s CEO Gianfranco Amoroso, on Saturday, 5 September 2026, in the presence of Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Nikos Tsafos, Italian Ambassador to Greece Paolo Cuculi, President of the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Waste and Water (RAAEY) Konstantinos Tsimaras and the Vice President of RAAEY for the Energy Sector Dimitris Fourlaris. The Enaon Pavilion was also visited by the Regional Governor of Central Greece Fanis Spanos, as well as representatives of the political community and institutional bodies.
“Our presence at the Thessaloniki International Fair is an important opportunity to highlight the role of modern energy infrastructure in the country’s development. The energy landscape is evolving, but resilient and innovative infrastructure remains essential. Enaon, with investments of €1 billion provided for Greece under the Strategic Plan of its parent company, Italgas, is moving forward with the expansion and digitalisation of the natural gas distribution network, creating the appropriate conditions for the integration of renewable gases, such as biomethane, and contributing to the development of a more competitive and sustainable energy system, for the benefit of the country and consumers,” Enaon CEO Gianfranco Amoroso said during his address at the event for the opening of the stand, expressing his thanks to the Ministry of Environment and Energy, RAAEY, as well as regional and municipal authorities, for their constructive cooperation and continued contribution to efforts to develop and modernise distribution infrastructure. He also thanked local communities for their positive response and support, as well as Enaon’s employees for their decisive contribution to achieving the company’s objectives.
For his part, Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Nikos Tsafos stressed: “Our country has invested in natural gas. At a time when high energy costs and households’ concerns about how they will meet their needs are so high, being able to have a choice of multiple solutions, and especially natural gas, is extremely important. Enaon is investing in networks, investing in consumer connections, and we see people continuing to choose natural gas, because it can indeed deliver very significant savings compared with heating oil. As a government, we are following a measured policy. We are not driven by ideology, but by technologies that can offer cost-effective solutions to consumers. At the Ministry of Environment and Energy, we welcome Enaon’s efforts to strengthen its presence in Greece through new investments and recognise the role that natural gas continues to play in our energy mix, in order to help households reduce their energy costs and, of course, we continue to promote the framework for biomethane and new gases that we want to utilise in the future.”
Italian Ambassador to Greece Paolo Cuculi highlighted: “Enaon is a strong example of excellence, driven by innovation not only in the natural gas sector, but also in the development of new energy solutions. The Italgas Group’s continuous investment presence in Greece is tangible proof of the long-standing and successful cooperation between Italy and Greece. Italgas was among the first companies to invest in Greece, at a time when not everyone considered the market so attractive, and today it is further strengthening its investments. This is a strong example of effectiveness, cooperation and a stable investment presence, further strengthening the ties between the two countries.”
At the same time, as part of the 90th TIF, Enaon CEO Gianfranco Amoroso participated in the Sixth Thessaloniki Metropolitan Summit, co-organised by The Economist and powergame.gr, speaking in the thematic session entitled “The Vertical Energy Corridor: Building South-East Europe’s New Energy Security Architecture”.
The discussion focused on the decisive role of infrastructure in the energy transition, with Mr Amoroso pointing out that the issue is not whether energy distribution infrastructure will remain essential in the future, but how the gradual decarbonisation of the energy distributed through it will be achieved. In this context, he highlighted biomethane as an important opportunity for Greece, as it can contribute to reducing emissions, supporting local economies, limiting energy imports and creating broader benefits for consumers and the energy system.
Enaon’s presence at the 90th TIF confirms the company’s and its parent company Italgas’ stable investment presence in Greece, as well as their role in the energy transition, with an emphasis on modern infrastructure and new energy solutions. Visitors can find out more about the activities of Enaon and its subsidiary Enaon EDA in the natural gas and renewable gases distribution sector at Pavilion 10 / Stand 20 throughout the TIF, from 5 to 13 September 2026.
